Life lately: January 2013.

View from my office as the sun set this afternoon. I love the weather this week. Plenty of blue skies, frost and snow. There are signs that warn of falling ice and snow from rooftops on almost every street in the city centre. The icicles are some of the longest I've ever seen.

Most played song this week: I actually haven't listened to any music so far this week, at least not consciously. But then again it's only Wednesday.

Favourite thing to watch on TV: The new Swedish comedy show Familjen Holstein-Gottorp.

Favourite online activity: Blogging, of course.

Looking forward to: Going back home this weekend. In a longer perspective, spring and going to Thailand.

Most recent purchase: Groceries for tonight's pasta bolognese.

Most recent text: From the post office about a delivered package.

Most recent meal: Fish + potatoes + veggies for lunch today.

Favourite fruit: Strawberries and raspberries.

Last film watched: Keeping Mum on TV this weekend. Such a weird film!

Where would you like to travel right now: Someplace warm and sunny. But I don't really mind winter. I love living in a place that has four seasons. I just wish the days were longer.

What did you do yesterday: Went to work. Watched the season 1 finale of Mad Men and went online in the evening.

Plans for tomorrow: Go to Oskarshamn for work. Catch up with TV and the online world in the evening. And dye my hair if there's time.

Around here: Winter days.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I got out from work at five the other day and noticed that it was still light outside. The days are getting longer so fast now! Soon we will be able to go for walks after work while it's still light outside.

With that said, winter is still going strong around here. Lots of snow this week. I took the first photo on Tuesday afternoon. It was snowing so hard that I could hardly see anything at all from my office window and you might remember how good the view usually is from up there. I don't mind the snow though, it makes the world brighter and can stay until the first spring flowers appear if you ask me. Overall this winter has been so pretty and unlike many people around here I am grateful for it. I can't imagine life without season changes.

Around here: The beauty of winter.

The light was magnificent today. The temperatures dropped significantly since yesterday - it was ten degrees below zero when we checked this morning and the sky was a beautiful shade of blue. If only I could have spent the entire day outside chasing the good light with my camera. Alas, all I had time for was to snap a few quick pictures of the budding sunrise on my way to work and then in the afternoon I watched the sunset for a moment from the parking lot outside Ikea (bottom right photo). What a waste, especially considering that it was the only day of sunshine all week according to the weather forecast. Nevertheless, these short moments were the highlight of an otherwise crappy day, and I am grateful for them.

Outings: Aboda Klint.

This weekend offered more of the usual. Quiet times at home, a visit to the house, some nature and not one but two (!) visits to Ikea. We took down all the Christmas decorations and stored them away in the attic. Until next time. Then of course I just had to go to the big blue store to look for things to replace the decorations with. We came home with three new lamps - one for the kitchen window, one for the one in the bedroom and one for the hallway.

In the evening we watched both The Hobbit and Silver Linings Playbook. The former felt rather drawn out just as I expected but the scenery was lovely. I did enjoy the latter but not as much as I expected to based on the reviews I've read, although my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt since I might have fallen asleep for a bit (because it was getting late). What can I say, I am hard to please when it comes to films these days.

Guess what, we have snow again! Lots of it, too. It snowed like crazy on Friday - we could scarcely see anything other than a white wall when we looked out through the window at work in the afternoon. Walking home sure wasn't easy. I don't mind that it's colder and white again though. It is winter after all.

On Sunday we stopped by the house for a little while before heading out to Aboda Klint. Until the very end I hoped the skies would clear just like the weather forecast had promised for days but sadly that didn't happen. The light wasn't very good at all but I took some photos anyway. It would have been a waste not to, since we had driven so far, and besides, the view from Aboda klint is beautiful no matter the weather.

To our great surprise the restaurant up on the mountain was open and we were able to have (a late) lunch there before heading home again. We stopped by Ikea again on the way and spent the rest of the evening rearranging one side of the living room. More on that later.

Now it's Monday evening and the countdown until next weekend has already begun. Hopefully it will bring with it some blue skies.

Around here: Saturday afternoon on Svinö.

As promised, I bring you some photos from our walk on Svinö island on Saturday afternoon. Despite the lack of snow it was a truly beautiful winter day. I just love this island. It's situated north of Kalmar, not quite within walking distance but close enough. On any given day the views are stunning no matter which way you look but it was especially pretty this time around.

This might have been my first time experiencing the sunset on Svinö, but it was certainly not the last. I just wish we had braced the cold and stayed a little while longer - as we were driving home the sun had sunk lower and the sky had turned a lovely shade of pink. Next time I won't miss it.
