Outings: Spring on Öland.

I can think of few better ways to spend a beautiful spring Sunday than going on an outing to the island of Öland. This afternoon we went back to the valley we walked through during the beginning of spring last year, to see if the blue anemones were in bloom yet. I had a feeling they would be, and I was right.

I knew that it was April when we went there last year, but I had no idea that we didn't go until the 28th of April until I checked this entry. I keep comparing this spring with last years and it fascinates me how much earlier everything is this year. A year ago today there was still ice and snow outside and it'd be another several weeks until it finally melted. It's hard to imagine on a day like today.

I played around with my close-up filters a bit. The images aren't super sharp but I quite like the dreamlike feeling of them.

Outings: Karlskrona.

Somehow we went from "Is it spring?" to "It is spring!!!" in a matter of days. It's been sunny for a whole week now and earlier this week we had temperatures as high as 18 degrees which I am sure must be some kind of record for this time of year.

After a January with a mere 4 hours of sunshine altogether and a February with 7 hours of sunshine I hardly remembered how intensely blue the sky can be, how sunshine brightens every colour of the world and makes everything come alive again. Suddenly the world has a background again instead of that oppresive wall of white and grey I'd got used to. The days are longer and there are flowers everywhere. And the sunsets lately! Bright shades of pink and orange every evening. How I wish the sun would stay around forever! (They say winter is going to make a comeback in a few days but I'm chosing to ignore that for now.)

On Sunday we drove down to Karlskrona to visit the Naval Museum. We've intended to go there several times in the past two years but somehow we never made it there before. It worked out well though because as it turns out entrance is free during the off-season. The exhibitions were quite fascinating and there were very few people there. Another pleasant surprise was the museum's nice restaurant where we had lunch. Afterwards we drove out to two of the largest islands in the Karlskrona archipelago and driving by the sea in the bright sunshine made it feel almost like summer for a moment. I know we aren't there yet, but it sure feels closer now. Being treated to my first barbecue of the year courtesy of Per's parents on Saturday afternoon certainly didn't hurt either :)

Photobook pages: February & March 2013.

We saw the sunrise and sunset on a Sunday in early February. I know I've said it many times before but it can't be said enough - what a beautiful winter we had last year.

It's becoming a February tradition, a trip to Poland to see grandma around her birthday.

Fanny came to visit us in late February and we went to feed the hundreds of birds in the park.

Various Instagram photos from February.

The first weekend in March, a walk with Fanny near our hometown. The light when we took these photos was soo pretty.

Another photo from the above walk + Instagram photos from the rest of March/Easter.

Finishing the above pages means I'm about to start working on the Thailand pages. I've made 10.5 spreads from January-March so far and I predict Thailand will fill up about 20 spreads? But then again the Thailand photos make up about 20 % of my 2013 photos haha. Perhaps I should have made this epic trip its own book, but I like having just my yearly albums so I want to incorporate it. In any case, I expect it will be a long time before I finish those pages...

Life lately: February 2014.

Watching | Mostly various films. We watched The Book Thief at the cinema next door on Saturday evening. I really liked it. It's been a few years since I read the book so I am a bit hazy on the details but based on what I remember the film did it justice. Other than that I really enjoyed We're the Millers and About Time that we watched earlier in February.

Listening to | A lot of random music on Spotify, depending on my mood. In the middle of the month I started listening to the most embarrassing kind of music that we used to listen to at home when I was little thanks to a Swedish music show... fortunately it was a short-lived phase haha.

Consuming | Semlor in preparation for Shrove Tuesday (had one today too, of course), and all the delicious sweets we brought home from England (Minstrels! M&S Extremely Chocolatey Mini Bites! Lindt Lindor Strawberries & Cream ♥). Tomorrow marks the start of Lent and that means no more sweets for me for a while so of course I had to say goodbye properly ;)

Reading | I recently started The Fault in Our Stars which I bought in London but then I took a break from that to read this book. I am not sure how much it will help but it certainly can't hurt at this point (although, I will have you know that I drove the car into and out of the garage once in February, so maybe some progress has been made).

Visiting | Grandma in Poland.

Enjoying | The aforementioned sweets, knowing that spring is here, at least meteorologically speaking.

Making | More pages for the 2013 photobook again after a break of several weeks.

Looking forward to | Seeing the premiere of the Legally Blonde musical at Fanny's high school on Friday - Fanny has the lead part. So excited/nervous for her. Visiting Jenny at last, February didn't leave any room for that. The arrival of spring for real, some sunshine would be very welcome after months of fog and rain. Ultimately, the month of March being over, quite frankly, so that I will have put certain work obligations behind me...
